Damn the Broken Dresser

Damn the broken dresser
falling apart in my bedroom

Punch it in its dresser face
and hope it learns a lesson

It will not learn a lesson
and will continue to fall apart

I have no luck with
improbably cheap furniture

Download the tree
that holds the answers
my peasant farmer
LO
the sparrow eats carrot cake in the mead hall
and all of it is meaningless
meaningless
like celery
lost
in a swirl
of broken time

You say I make no sense
but you are mistaken
sir
mistaken like a ferret
flying madly towards the sunset
and you have no beauty in your soul
and no damnation
in your eyes

Weep for the tree
weep for the carrot cake
weep for the ferret
with the improbable wings
weep for desolation
and dragons in your cereal
again
since they always come back on Tuesdays

The siege will break
the end will come
the cake will eat itself
and all will be
a little less
than ridiculous

Potato

My potato
is going to be king
with the sceptre and the crown and everything
because it answered the riddles
and completed the impossible tasks
and won the princess
which is actually pretty good
for a potato

Your potato
is terrible
while mine has accomplished all the things
and thus your potato
should slink away home in shame

All hail the potato
king of potatoes
wielder of the rule of law
singer of the song

It is hard for the princess
though
as every time she glances
at her potato husband
her stomach
begins to growl

The Poem That Jack Wrote

This is the poem that Jack wrote

This is the line
that lives in the poem that Jack wrote

This is the word
that sits in the line
that lives in the poem that Jack wrote

This is the letter
that starts off the word
that sits in the line
that lives in the poem that Jack wrote

This is the point
I realise I’ve got too small
and there’s nowhere left to take this
stupid exercise that goes on and on
about the stuff in the poem that Jack wrote

This is the verse
that ends the poem
and I can’t even be bothered to give it
the right number of lines
